The Last Elephant of the Knysna Forest

Research confirms female elephant in the Knysna Forest

I read with deepest sadness this week that in Knysna South Africa, one of my favourite towns and the place where I had imagined retiring where a herd of elephant a thousand strong once roamed the mighty Knysna forest and surrounding regions at the southern tip of Africa until the 1800s and 1900s,  now a single elephant dwells its leafy footpaths. When I heard of the news, I imagined it may be a bull and thought of his deep sadness, although they do tend to roam alone . Then research confirmed that that it was in fact a cow, a female elephant roaming alone through the Knysna forest...how could it be? They are not destined for isolation, she couldn't possibly last long out there.  I tried to imagine the what may have happened and the significance of this spiritually. I turned to my older writings:

"Deep in the African forest the African, the the African elephants led by the matriarchs began a migration under unnatural circumstances on the dawn of what is termed the awakening of human consciousness. Lifting their trunks  in the air, rotating they tips, they sense trouble. A sixth sense and innate ancient knowing tells them that they are endangered not just physically but the soul of the elephant is a highly endangered species. Musth males out of control aggressively charge at each other and any females in they way in a chilling premonition and account of what humanity faces in the shadows of Africa.

The world is on the edge of a new era, a time for humanity to awaken or self-destruct. Predators of the elephant soul close in on migrating herds. Elephant carcasses lie in the forest exposed to vultures. The elephants across the continent communicate intuitively that they have become the latest conflict for resources. What human kind is unaware of is that the fate of the African elephant is a greater manifestation of the conflict of human beings. She is not just in African Folklore as a force to be reckoned with but she resembles a part of the female soul. She represents the direct relationship we have with the feminine energy- the all knowing power to create, heal and transform."

Before the sun may fully shine above this continent, humanity must face it's darkness. As the last elephant roams the forest of Knysna, she is a sheer reminder that it is time to awaken the feminine within us all. It's the energy of compassion, patience, gentleness, intelligence and wisdom. Elephants are committed- they are tough when protecting their own and gentle when nurturing. When a calf is born the herd or "memory of elephant gather for a calf will always have more than one mother. She lives in her loneliness so that we may join together as human beings and rediscover the human soul. I don't believe she can survive too long, but I am sure long enough for her message to be heard.
